December 2012 Internet Marketing Update

Hey, and welcome to my end-of-2012/start-of-2013 blog post!

First of all, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

NOTE: Normally I post a new article to AidanBooth.com on the 1st of each month – this one is coming a few days early because I’m going on vacation.

I can’t believe it’s that time of year already…2012 really has flown by…

Things are winding down for me for the year, in fact, this blog post is the LAST thing I’m going to do at a computer in 2012…in about 24 hours I’m heading to the beach…here.

Here’s a pic of me this time last year at the same beach learning to surf…

As you can probably tell, I’m excited about putting my feet up, relaxing, and chilling out with friends away from the big city!

When planning this post today, I thought long and hard about the most useful thing I could provide you with to finish out 2012…and the most useful advice I could give you to start 2013.

What I’ve decided to do is write up a quick summary of the state of SEO, and in particular, the 4 keys to getting top rankings. I’m also sharing my goals for 2013 AND giving you some clues about a couple of products I’ll be releasing in 2013…I’m VERY excited about those!

With that said, time to get started…

What Happened in 2012?

The biggest thing of all is that the rules of SEO changed.

  • The Google Panda algorithm was refreshed and updated no fewer than 13 times and Google Panda 20 was released (Sept 27th 2012).
  • Google took aim at paid networks (such as Build My Rank) and wiped a few of them off the map (March 19th 2012).
  • Google Penguin was released (April 24th 2012) and millions of websites lost their rankings literally overnight.
  • Google released the “Disavow” tool (October 16th 2012) (link to my post about disavow tool) which caused “gurus” everywhere to scream “SEO IS DEAD”.

Every change that Google made rewarded some websites, and punished others.

After each update, some websites lost rankings, and some improved their rankings. We mostly heard about the people who LOST their rankings.

On October the 16th, I told people (via my Facebook Page) that SEO was ALIVE AND WELL…and it is.

One of the best examples I can give you is of the website I created for Authority Hybrid (AH members, you know the one I’m talking about). The website was launched in January 2012, by April is was ranking #2 in Google for it’s main keyword, and today, it’s ranking #5 in Google for it’s main keyword.

The website survived Panda, Penguin, the Google EMD update (exact match domain name) and so much more.

That website now has 80 top 20 rankings, of which about half are on page 1 of Google.

Here’s how my rankings changed throughout 2012 for my main keyword:

Note: The green line represents my rankings. Sure, they fluctuated a little, but once my site was in the top 10 of Google, it never really left!

Note 2: The SEO Module in Authority Hybrid was titled – “Module 6: Future Proofed SEO”…although it was released before Google Penguin, it was designed for the long haul which is why the website has thrived!

But SEO is not about luck…it’s not a case of “pull the trigger and hope”…

Here’s a screenshots from another brand new website, I created this one for the Authority Hybrid Elite members (this website is only 3 months old):

As you can see, of the 13 keywords I’m tracking, 11 are in the top 25 of Google, and 5 of those are ALREADY in the top 10!

And here’s more proof that SEO is alive and well, I shared 3 of these images on my Facebook Page yesterday (the follow screenshots are taken from Market Samurai):

The blue line represents my Google rankings for my target keyword, the yellow line is Yahoo, and the red line is Bing.

This keyword still isn’t ranking for Yahoo or Bing, but it’s risen from #50 to #4 in Google in just 3 months.

This keyword is ready to break into the top 10 in Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Like other keywords, this one has improved slowly but surely from #50 in October to the top 5 of Google in December.

This keyword is about to break into the top 10!

This keyword is at #15…in the next month I’m sure it’ll be in the top 10 of Google.

This keyword has climbed steadily for 3 months and is now #3 in Google.

I’m showing you a range of different ranking screenshots because I want it to be crystal clear…SEO STILL WORKS.

The bottom line is this:

You can still use SEO to get rankings in Google and earn a massive amount of money online!

What’s more – with so many people quitting because they think “it’s over” – perhaps YOU have a better chance than ever before!

The 4 Keys To SEO Success

So what are the keys to getting top rankings (and keeping them)?

  • Links on relevant websites (websites related to your niche)
  • Links in different types of places (Web 2.0 sites, Facebook, Press Releases, Videos etc)
  • Plenty of anchor text variation
  • User engagement (good on page metrics such as bounce rate etc)

That’s it.

Meet those 4 criteria, don’t be too aggressive with your link building, and you’ll get rankings.

So what should you take away from this and carry on into 2013?

Simple: SEO WORKS.

Don’t ask yourself “if it works”.

Take my word for it…SEO will keep changing but it IS here to stay!

So choose your niche, take action, follow a good plan, and the results will come!

My Goals For 2013…

Now, obviously you’ll have different goals for 2013 to me, but I hope by sharing my goals with you, it’ll motivate you to make your own and also offer some clue as to the direction I want to grow my business…

Before I share my goals, here’s a really good acronym to remember to help you set your goals:

S.M.A.R.T

SMART means:

S = Specific

M = Measureable

A = Attainable

R = Relevant

T = Timely

Now to my goals:

1. Build 3 New eCommerce Websites That Each Get 250 Visitors/Day By December 31st 2013.

I got started with eCommerce a few years ago as a way to diversify my earnings. eCommerce is a GREAT way to make money online and I’ll grow my eCommerce websites even more in 2013.

By reaching 250 visitors per day, I should get a minimum of 1 sale per day. That sale will have a minimum of $30-$40 profit.

2. Launch 2 New Affiliate Websites (Authority Hybrid Elite style) That Each Get 250 Visitors/Day By December 31st 2013.

Affiliate websites continue to be good money makers for me. While they’re no longer as popular as they once were (with internet marketers), they still earn me thousands every month and my new affiliate sites still continue to get good rankings in Google.

In 2013 I’ll focus on working out how to really deliver value for each site, specifically, the things I can do to give my visitors that little bit of extra value. If I can do this I know my websites will stand out amongst the crowd.

3. Launch 2 New Adsense Websites (Authority Hybrid style) That Each Get 250 Visitors/Day By December 31st 2013.

Similar to the two new affiliate sites I’ll be building in 2013, the two new Adsense sites will aim to deliver lots of value to my visitors. If I can do this, the on page metrics such as bounce rate, time on site and pages per visit will take care of themselves.

— — —

So in total I aim to build 7 new websites…doesn’t sound like much does it?

But financially it will be significant.

If each of my 7 new websites earns an average of just $30/day (with 250 visitors they could earn even more than that), that’ll be $210/day of NEW INCOME (over the course of a year, $210/day is over $76,000).

In addition to developing new websites, I also plan on improving my existing websites.

The way I do this is to choose the best 10 websites (the 10 websites that earn me the most money), and then look at ways to improve my earnings per visitor and increase traffic.

TIP: If you want to focus on improving some of your existing websites, it might be better to focus on just 2-3 of them, not 10 (I can easily scale my business and have employees which allow me to get more done).

So in a nutshell, I’ll be building 7 new websites and working hard to improve my best 10 existing sites.

What can you work on in 2013 to grow your business?

Do you have the diversity that you need?

Do you have any existing sites that make money that you can improve?

It’s time to get your goals written down, and get ready to face them head on in 2013.

A couple of secrets…

I love teaching and get a real kick out of helping others have success online. I also REALLY enjoy SEO…I love to crunch the numbers, run tests, analyze results and improve my methods.

So…….in a few weeks time, I’m going to release a BRAND NEW product specifically targeted to SEO and how you can make it work for you in 2013.

I won’t go into details now, but I will say the following:

  • It’ll be accessible to everyone (price will not be an issue – I promise you that)
  • It’ll contain SEO methods you’ve never even imagined (methods I’ve NEVER EVER revealed to ANYONE before – literally…no one has seen this stuff)
  • It’ll show you exactly how to nail down top rankings in 2013 and beyond

I can’t wait to get this information to you!

I’m ALSO working on a new plugin that’ll increase user engagement on my websites.

I’m not sure if I’m going to sell this, keep it as an in-house tool or give it away – I am excited about it though and will give you more details about it in the near future.

And last, but definitely not least, eCommerce coaching…

It’s Time For eCommerce Coaching…

I’ve never ever revealed anything about my eCommerce business before…but the reality is that it’s now a HUGE part of my business and probably the part I enjoy the most.

Every single day I’m thinking about eCommerce and I’ve got a HUGE amount of information to share.

Here are some of the things I like most about eCommerce:

  • It’s extremely lucrative (far more so than both Affiliate websites and Adsense websites)
  • It’s often easier to get rankings because there’s far less competition
  • There’s virtually an unlimited number of niches available
  • The market is massive (and growing)
  • Google seems to favor eCommerce websites
  • I can live in Argentina, but sell in the USA without any issues at all – complete flexibility
  • I can ship internationally to reach a global market
  • I don’t need to buy goods before I sell them, so I have very few overheads
  • Day to day operations are simple and can easily be outsourced
  • I can use WORDPRESS to run my websites!

On top of this, it’s also easy to explain to my friends and family! This might sound like a trivial thing, but I like that!

Even though I earn great money online and have done for years now, people STILL seem to doubt internet marketing simply because they don’t understand it. eCommerce however, is EASY to explain and EASY to understand.

In case you’re not familiar with exactly what an eCommerce website is like, here’s an example of the type of site I create:

http://www.telescopes.com

NOTE: The above website is not mine. But it is VERY similar to the types of website I create!

If everything goes smoothly in the next couple of months, you can expect to hear something from me about my eCommerce coaching program in February or March.

Lastly, THANK YOU!!!

Awesome post. You have motivated and inspired me to create my own plan. I have been wanting to do an ecommerce site for a while but always fall back on Adsense, Affiliate and Videos. Looking forward to what is to come from you…Happy New Years.

    • Aidan says:

Hey Jen, I’m glad this has motivated you 🙂 I also fell back on Affiliate sites and Adsense sites for YEARS…I guess it was always the “easy option”…I’m glad I eventually did start with eCom though as it’s made a big difference to my business! Happy New Year to you to!

  2. Bogdan says:

    Hi Aidan!

Do you still use LinkingMadeEasy.com as SEO outsourcing? I ask this because they make just 75 links per month.

Do you have results with them after 2-3 months with so little backlinks?

    Thank you! Highly appreciated!

    • Aidan says:

Hi Bogdan, I do still use Linking Made Easy, however I also have a full time SEO assistant so she takes care of most of my link building these days.

As for the number of links, 75 is PLENTY. There’s a big difference between 75 low quality links and 75 high quality links though…I personally build around 10-15 links per month, but focus on HIGH quality links on related websites. I also add new content from time to time.

      Hope this helps!

      • Jonathan says:

        Hi Aidan,

Great post by the way, I was thinking along the lines of what Bogden said although my question is slightly different.

You mentioned that you have a personal assistant/employee doing the back linking for you. I am assuming the back linking that they are doing for you is solely based on your expertise (where you would personally place the links if you were doing it).

Have you been able to compare your employee’s/your link building against a SEO link building company, say LME or Pragmites for instance (Or any other outsourced link building company that you have used)? I.e. how to they compare to your team?

Also where did hire your personal assistant from (elance? vworker?) and what rate have they charged you – if I can ask:)

        Jonathan

        • Aidan says:

Hi Jonathan, as always, good to hear from you.

I think the big difference between the link building that’s done by my assistant and the link building that a company link Linking Made Easy does is the ability to customize things from month to month.

Linking Made Easy are a bit like a vending machine…you put in $1, and out comes the product. They’ve done a good job of scaling up the kind of things that I do on a small scale.

I’ve trained my assistant to build links EXACTLY the same way that I would…and I continue to tweak the way they do it. For example, in the last couple of months I’ve started building new types of links that I’d never built before, as such, I needed to teach her how to do it. With Linking Made Easy or any other SEO company, it’s hard to get the same level of customization.

The other difference is that if you pay a company (any company, not just LME) to build, say, a Squidoo lens…they’ll do it to a standard that they think is okay. I’m always trying to raise the bar…I EXPECT my Squidoo lens to turn into a PR3 page, and as such, more effort goes into it (more than you could expect from LME).

As for where to hire assistants, I’ve had lots of good luck of the years with VWorker.com (now called Freelancer.com). For $800/month you’ll be able to hire someone in the Philippines who works hard and cares about what they’re doing.

          Happy NY Jonathan!

  3. Martina says:

Hi Aidan, could you please define “too aggressive”? Is this in terms of number of backlinks, and if so, roughly how many per site would be too many, just to give an idea?

    • Aidan says:

Hi Martina, sure! These days, LESS is MORE. What I mean by that is that fewer high quality links are much more valuable than LOTS of low quality links. So, what I aim to do is something like the following:

Month 1 (brand new website) – 2 links to each page
Month 2 – 1-2 links to each page
Month 3 – add some new content to the site and increase the internal linking
Month 4 (by this time you’ve hopefully got some rankings) – add another 1-2 new links per page

So if your website has just 12 pages, some months you only need to make about 12-24 links. One other thing to remember, is that there is no EXACT rule to follow. Some months I’m busy and I do no links, then the next month I might make 50 links. As long as you’re getting lots of quality and variation, you should get good results.

  4. Bruce Bigford says:

Aidan hi, I am going to follow your example this year. I did purchase your authourity hybrid. I have a question about ecommerce sites. Where do you host your ecommerce sites? I realize it needs to have a shopping cart. I have heard of big commerce and it costs 24 dollars per month. What do you use? You mentioned word press but what do you use for shopping cart? thank you. Bruce

    • Aidan says:

Hi Bruce, thanks for the comment 🙂

I host my eCommerce sites using a Host Gator business plan ($14/month). I build them using WordPress and I run them using a special WordPress theme with a few special plugins. For the shopping cart, PayPal is the easiest way to start.

      Happy New Year Bruce!

  5. Romy says:

    Hey Aidan

I wish you nothing but the best in 2013, and hopefully all your plans will succeed. Solid plan for 2013, that’s for sure.

I usually plan out my new year in the first few days of January, when I review my plans I made for last year, see what I accomplished, where I’m at with my business and where do I need to go, in which direction.

One thing’s for sure. I will definitely stick close to you in 2013 :). Working with you is something I enjoyed a lot in 2012 and I am sure it will be a lot better and more fun in the new year to come. You’re stuck with me now… hehe.

    Happy New Year!

    • Aidan says:

      Hey Romy,

Always great to have your contribution, thanks 🙂

Great idea reviewing your goals from last year – hopefully you reached a few of them, if not, just re-aim and do better in 2013.

Would be great to work closely with you again in 2013, was fun speaking regularly as part of Authority Hybrid Elite. I hope it’s not too cold in Romania at the moment!

  6. Steve says:

I can’t to wait read your course on eCommerce. Have a great 2013 year !

  7. Robert says:

Great post Aidan … I’ll be looking forward to your SEO information.

Have a relaxing time off (I get mine this Saturday) and a Happy New Year!

  8. Joe says:

    Hey Aidan,

    Enjoy your well deserved holidays!
    🙂

Thanks for being a constant source of inspiration for me…

Whenever I feel lost or overwhelmed, I know just watching in the same direction
than you already help me more than I can even imagine.

    Regards,
    Joe.

    • Aidan says:

Hey Joe, thanks for the compliments! These days I have access to so many statistics about engagement, visits, user interaction and so on, but there’s nothing more motivating than this kind of comment – I appreciate it!

  9. Marcus says:

Hey Aidan, I’d just like to thank you for the great posts you make each month, I’ve unsubscribed to other internet marketers and your emails are the only ones I read nowadays.

2012 didn’t turn out as I’d hoped, I just got distracted too often and although I made a few websites, I never really put serious effort into them.

I can’t wait to make a serious effort in 2013 – if I can get to just $30/day by the end of 2013 I’ll be happy (a good part time income)!

    • Aidan says:

      Hey Marcus,

Although 2012 didn’t turn out as you’d hoped, 2013 is another chance. The key is that you know why 2012 didn’t turn out as you’d hoped, you’ll be better for that experience moving into 2013.

In a 1 year period, $30 is EXTREMELY achievable!!! You’ll get that with just 1 or 2 successful websites…

I wish you all the best, hopefully this time next year you’ve got a success story to share with me!

  10. Hi Aidan –

Happy New Year to you. I agree with Romy; I plan to hang around awhile. I need to learn how to diversify and fine tune what I’ve already begun.

Thanks for the opportunity. I can’t think of a better way to be spending my time.

You enjoy the beach on your vacation. One day we’ll meet on the beach. Until then, I’ll hold down the fort right here, and do some more linking.

Every link I place brings me closer to the the sand in my shoes.

    Best regards,

    Dave C

    • Aidan says:

Hey Dave, it’d be great to meet you, on the beach or wherever!

After so long online, I kind of feel like I know you now anyway 🙂

  11. Giulio says:

    Hi Aidan,

you always give great information with your monthly posts. I wish you the best for 2013, you’ve proven to be a honest person and are among the five IM people that I follow and respect.

I look forward to see your eCommerce training. I actually have two stores but I’m using Bluecart as a shopping cart. Never though WordPress could also be used for ecommerce stores.

Actually, the biggest problem I’m having with one of my ecommerce stores is…the supplier. When people write me asking for clarification about a product and my supplier answer to me in four days I get mad, because their inefficiency hurts my reputation. Now I cannot throw away months of work and get rid of the shop. Lesson learned: always try to get an alternative supplier for the same products.

    • Aidan says:

Hey Guilio, good to hear from you again!

I can relate to the issue you’re having with your eCommerce supplier completely. It happens on one of my stores as well. I’ve done two things and they’ve helped me solve the problem somewhat:

      1. I make a list of Frequently Asked Questions and keep a file of prepared responses.
      2. I call the supplier instead of emailing them.

These two things have helped a lot…at the end of the day, I shouldn’t really complain because the store that has these issues is one of my most profitable ones of all (where possible, I now avoid technical products and stick to things that have fewer potential questions)!

      All the best for 2013!

  12. Chris says:

    Hello Aidan,

Congrats on your business in 2012, and I know you’ll do awesome in 2013! I’m so glad to have taken your courses this year – it’s really turned my own business around – mainly around organization and focus, though your SEO methods are fantastic and a real eye-opener. Thank you for your dedication towards all your students, your openess and caring, and your willingness to hold our hands when we need a bit of a push!

Have a great vacation, and I look forward to your teachings in the new year!

    Chris

    • Aidan says:

Hey Chris, thanks for the compliments! I’m happy to have been able to help! All the best for 2013 – I’m sure we’ll be in touch with one another!

  13. Lee says:

    Hi Aidan,

Enjoyed reading your post! I will be interested to see what you have in store for e-commerce sites as I’m looking to build some myself. All the best…!!

    • Aidan says:

Hey Lee, thanks for the comment – eCom is a good option, especially if you need to diversify your business 🙂 All the best for 2013!

  14. Russ Turner says:

    Hi Aidan,

2012 was going so well and I started to earn decent affiliate commissions only to be completely wiped out by G.

I have a few plans to try and resurect some of my sites in January so its “get back on the bike”, however, I would be extremely interested to hear more of your ECommerce coaching and look forward to its release.

    Best wishes for 2013.

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda, as they say here in Wales.

    Regards

    Russ

    • Aidan says:

Hi Russ, we can’t hide from Google, not even deep in the Welsh Valleys!

I’m sorry to hear you had some sites wiped out…I suffered with a couple of mine as well.

One positive to all this though is that you now know about a group of keywords (or niche) that convert…this is pretty powerful knowledge. If you were getting regular sales, you might want to consider starting a brand new site. Build the links slowly, add some real value, and I’m sure you’ll be back making sales in no time.

Whatever you do, definitely don’t give up…the payoff is too good once you get things into a positive cycle (making money leads to making more money, which leads to more freedom and flexibility!)

      • Ed says:

Great article Aidan thanks. I got a few sites wiped out by the Exact domain google update. I didn’t actually have anything on them (which i now understand is why they got hit as they were poor conent) as they were just wordpress hello world pages with the keyword in the title and amazingly they were on page one for their terms!
2013 for me is about building the sites properly. Should I use the same domains? They are very good domains so I would like to.

        • Aidan says:

Hi Ed, if you’ve had sites wiped out, I’d recommend starting on brand new domain names, sometimes a fresh start is easier than trying to fix something thats already broken. “Building sites properly” is a great initiative, and something that will pay off for you – I wish you all the best for 2013!

  15. Jim Nimmo says:

    Hi Aidan,
I look forward in anticapation to your e-Commerce course, it looks exciting and if the other courses are anything to go by it will be a great course. I got an awfull lot out of the others even though I am a bit slow.
Next up have a great holiday season and we will see you next year.
    Cheers
    Jim

    • Aidan says:

      Hey Jim,

I’m glad you’ve found my other courses useful – I don’t think you’re a bit slow though, you seem to get a lot done when you put your mind to it!

Happy New Year, I hope all is well in New Zealand.

  16. mal says:

Aidan will your ecomerce corse be any different or better than eformula which you were an affiliate for or will it teach us somthing different and will it be the same sort of price, thanks Mal.

    • Aidan says:

      Hi Mal,

You’ll need to wait for all the details – I still have plenty to finalize.

It’ll obviously be my take on eCommerce, eFormula is a great course, but it’s not exactly the same method I use – there are a fair few differences 🙂

  17. Rob Cole says:

    HI Aidan,

I always look forward to your monthly updates as I know they are full of information that i can put into practice.

Your methods have allowed me to make a consistent income , which was always a problem for me previously. I look forward to learning from you in the future.

Hope you had a great Christmas and have a fantastic new year.

2013 is certain to be an exciting year for everybody who sticks with what you teach ;-).

    All the best,
    Rob

  18. Aaron says:

Hey Aidan great update and solid plan for this coming year. Like many others, I too will continue to follow your teachings. Learned a lot this year and look forward to making even greater improvements in 2013. Happy New Year!

  19. Kim says:

Aidan, thank you again for great inspirational information. I am looking at my goals a little differently after reading your past few posts. I`ve been really sick this past year so feel like I`m starting over in a way. Your information you give helps me to think “simplistically” instead of getting over whelmed. Thanks again and looking forward to your ecommerce training. Diversity is something I want to make sure I do in the future.

    • Aidan says:

Hi Kim, I’m glad you found this post was useful! When it comes to setting goals, I try to make them as concise and simple as possible – otherwise it’s easy to lose track and get lost in a sea of information…

  20. James says:

    Hi Aidan,

Thanks for great post! I’m interested in building eCommerce stores, but I have a question. I am not living in the United States. If I sell in USA, how can I handle returns?

    Happy New Year!

    • Aidan says:

Hi James, like you, I don’t live in the USA either. The way returns work is quite simple, the customer sends them back the the manufacturer. Once the manufacturer has the product, they give you a refund, and then you give the customer a refund. Returns are few and far between though – in fact, they very rarely happen at all, and when they do, it’s a simple 2 minute task to process them 🙂 Happy New Year!

  21. Lionel says:

    Hi Aidan,

Thanks for a great post full of motivation and inspiration as always. I have really appreciated your teaching and guidance this year, thank you. I am looking forward to learning more about eCommerce in the New Year…

Happy New Year, best wishes and good fortune in 2013!

    Hello Aidan,
I am one of your members of authority hybrid. I started your course and got distracted. I have now deleted all unimportant emails. I am determined to focus on your training for 2013. I looked at your goals for 2013 and was wondering…..are these goals obtainable for just an average person? If I could just make half that….it would be life changing and encourage me to continue to pursue a profession in internet marketing. I am very interested in building eCommerce websites, Can I continue thru your authority hybrid course and obtain the same goals for 2013? I realize it will take a lot of work. Where do you recommend I start?
    Thanks,
    Mitzi

    • Aidan says:

Hi Mitzi, distractions are a BIG reason why people take longer than they should to start earning money online. I recommend people to unsubscribe to emails they get from anyone who adds to this distraction.

As for my goals, YES, I think you could absolutely build 7 new websites in 2013. As you know, to build 7 new websites, it does take some hard work. While you probably shouldn’t expect to get the same results as me (I have a lot of experience online and that counts for a lot when choosing niches etc), I think if you do build 7 high quality websites then you’ll give yourself a great chance to be earning some decent money every day 1 year from now.

Where should you start? Well, since you have Authority Hybrid, that would be a good place to start. You already have a guide thats proven itself, so it’s just a case of replicating the method now.

      Good luck for 2013!

You’re right about distractions. Thanks for the encouragement and response. Looking forward to 2013 and setting my goals for 7 high quality websites. Looking forward also to your eCommerce course.

  23. As always, very valuable information, Aidan.
    Thanks for sharing 🙂
    Best wishes for 2013!

    Hi Aidan –

Thanks again for the continuous value you offer. Just curious if your Authority Hybrid Elite will be eventually open to members who didn’t join originally.

Also, I have be going through to search criteria you’ve outlined in AH and it seems I can spend days just finding maybe a few keywords to fit. So I guess my question, does the criteria you originally laid out still one we should be looking for when finding which niche and keywords to target?

    Thanks again
    Nick

    • Aidan says:

      Hi Nick,

I don’t have plans to re-open Authority Hybrid Elite in the near future. Perhaps at some stage, but definitely not in the next 6-9 months.

As for keyword research, it can be a time consuming process, no doubt about it. If you’re really struggling, just relax the keyword criteria a little bit. The criteria is still the same as when AH was launched – but it can be relaxed if necessary.

The good news is that when you uncover good keywords, everything else becomes so much easier!

All the best for 2013 Nick!

    Hi Aidan –

Once again, thanks for taking the time to leave comments.

I’ve been following the model you laid out in AH.

I’ve been fortunate to find a company to do my SEO.

I was curious, maybe I can see what you thought.

After targeting profitable keywords based off your teachings in AH, they’ve recommended me to target long tail keywords and Geo Targeted Keywords in addition to my main keywords.

This was claimed by them that it would be easier to rank by targeting the longer tailed keywords.

    Ex: Keyword ‘Jazz Music’
In addition target: ‘how to play jazz’ and/or ‘jazz music in NY’ etc, etc.

Does this seem appropriate to you or is it just a poor attempt on there part.

    Thanks a bunch.

Sorry, I have no one else to ask about this matter.

    Nick

    Hey Aidan,

This is Priyank from India. New to your list and IM.

I have done fair bit of research and launching a adsense site and a video site. I have few questions if you can answer. I will be really grateful to you.

    1. My target – 20$ a month from both sites. How many visitors can get me that?
    2. My Video site is related to Cricket videos and news. I know I can’t get anything if I do adsense with that. Can you suggest me best monetizing methods.
    3. How many posts a week would serve my adsense site better.

Note: I cannot apply for adsense before 6 months. Rule is such for Indian site.

Looking for your reply, though I believe it’s quite selfish of me to ask questions straightway in our first conversion.

Anticipating positive reply like you always do.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Aidan says:

      Hi Priyank,

$20/month is a target you should be able to reach in a very short time frame.

To earn $20/month from an adsense site, you’ll need between 15-40 clicks on your ads, depending on the amount you earn per ad. To be on the safe side, lets assume you need 40 clicks…heres how the numbers would breakdown:

      – 800 Visitors (26 per day)
      – 5% Click Through Rate (1 in 20 people who visit will click your ads)
      – $0.50 Earnings Per Click (let’s assume you earn $0.50 each time someone clicks your ad)

Based on these numbers, you’ll earn $20/month.

The video site could be monetized by selling cricket equipment, perhaps using the Commission Junction affiliate program (cj.com)

Hope this helps, thanks for the comment 🙂

Hi Aiden, I watched your PageOneEvolution webinar a couple of days ago, and it was really useful and packed with high quality content.

    But I have a question:

You talk about getting Youtube links, and that it doesn’t matter that they are nofollow links, because you still get a big page rank benefit from them.

I don’t understand how a nofollow link can affect Page Rank, because the whole point of a nofollow link is that Google doesn’t ‘know’ about them.

I heard Matt Cutts say you need both dofollow and nofollow links as well – but how can nofollow links affect our Google assessment when they don’t know about them?

Hope you can solve this confusion for me and put me out of my misery of not knowing. 🙂

    • Aidan says:

      Hi Carol,

Thanks for attending that webinar 🙂

Google absolutely DOES know about NoFollow links. Supposedly they don’t consider them when looking at your link profile, but lots of people have proven this just isn’t the case. I’ve seen websites that have got rankings and they’ve ONLY got NoFollow links.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Google considers links that actually refer traffic to your website to be better quality, and it you have a YouTube link that’s driving lots of traffic, they HAVE to take notice of it.

YouTube links might not necessarily increase your Page Rank, but they WILL improve your rankings. Test it out for yourself and see if you see an improvement within 72 hours of getting the link…

      Hope this helps…
